St. Margaret’s Convent is established.

[1873-EntW] It is located at 19 Louisburg Square. The building includes a Gothic Revival chapel, designed by Henry Vaughn and small hospital. It is operated by an Anglican order that arrived in Boston in 1873 to run a children’s hospital and that also establishes St. Monica’s Home, a nursing home for African-American women and children, on Joy Street. The order moves to 17 Highland Park Street in Roxbury in 1992. The building is subsequently converted back to residential use. Subsequent occupants include U.S. Sen. and Secretary of State John Kerry.
